The home streets of South Bronx would have a profound impact on Fat Joe. Belonging to a "crew" of tough dudes, he took the name Joey Crack, which reflected his growing control and influence on the drug trade. It took some time, but Fat Joe soon realized his real future lay in music, not the drug scene.

2001's "What's Luv" with Ashanti became the most played single in Atlantic Record's history. Fat Joe was now in the spotlight.
